GS8208 IC Pixel Protocol overview

Our Individually 12V RGB led tapes are the GS8208 version include the integrated RGB LED and the external IC chip.No any ws2815 series products. This you can scan our post titled GS8208 VS 2815.

The GS8208 chip pixel protocol, also known as breakpoint-continues IC, was designed by Genesis-Systech Co. in China. It uses a SPI protocol to drive IC pixel chips. What the most suprised us was the individually programmable by 12V driver.

GS8208 offers  the similar features to classicial UCS1903 version, but it is with redundant data line output which is dedicated to breakpoint-continues function. It comes in an integrated 5050 RGB LED and SOP8 package, allowing us have more flexible options with LED solutions.

GS8208 Technical Specifications:

Data Type Data only, NO Clock
Color Resolution 8 bits
assemble package Integrated 5050 / SOP8
RGB Yes
RGBW NO
Output Voltage 12V
Output Current 11mA/Channel
PWM Rate 8.0KHZ
Refresh Rate up to 260 fps
Data transfer Speed 800kbps

GS8208 Advantages:

  • Very High PWM rate 8.0KHZ allows for filming the pixels with around 260fps appromately.
  • Dual data line offers the pixels breakpoint-continues function which reduces chance of entire strip failure.
  • 12-bit built-in gamma scaling makes dimming curves more smooth.
  • RGB can be independently controlled via 12V driver.
  • GS8208 is constant current that 3 chips inside are wired internally in series.
  • Integrated 5050 LED, it is availble to offer high density individually control RGB led tapes.

GS8208 Shortcomings:

  • 8 bits of color resolution, 256 grayscale for each color makes dimming curves less smooth.
  • External IC GS8208 have test pattern inside and no demo pattern two versions.
  • NO Clock data line  restricts refresh rate to be limited by the protocol speed, which will generally be slow.

GS8208 Cautions:

  • Integrated GS8208 RGB LED is no test pattern now, different with the previous specs you checked.
  • External GS8208 IC offers self-test pattern inside,no demo pattern two versions.
  • When power on, the external GS8208 IC pixels will momentarily flash, later a self-test demo for a short period of time. When finish the test demo playing, this external GS8208 pixels will proceed to respond to their incoming signal from controllers.
  • For integrated 5050 version, must be installed in a good heat dissipation conditions.
